Shane Watson

Project Manager for Project REWIND

Shane originally joined notMYkid in January 2013 as a peer educator on the topic of substance abuse.  Shortly afterward, he joined our full-time staff in the role of Communications Coordinator, overseeing the management, maintenance, and content creation for our website, email campaigns, and social media platforms.

Currently, Shane serves as a Prevention Specialist. In this role he does topic research, creates and edits presentations, and presents on multiple topics. Shane facilitates parent and school faculty presentations on substance abuse, bullying, Internet safety, depression/self-injury/suicide, and prescription drug abuse prevention. He presents to students on substance abuse prevention, depression, self-injury, and suicide. Shane also co-facilitates our early intervention program, Project REWIND.

In his time with notMYkid, he has performed over 345 presentations to an audience of over 25,000 at schools, corporations, conferences, and community groups in Arizona, California, Boston, and Kansas City. He also handles media relations for the organization, which includes local and national interviews for television, radio, print, and web. Shane is a registered ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Trainer and facilitates suicide intervention workshops in Arizona.

Shane graduated from Grand Canyon University with a B.A. in Communications.  Prior to joining notMYkid, Shane worked in marketing, eBusiness, publishing, and broadcasting.  He has a passion for public speaking and helping others, and is excited about combining those areas of interest in his work with notMYkid.  In his spare time, Shane enjoys spending time with his family, working out, hiking, traveling, reading, writing, and creating interactive online art projects.
